JackStreamer works ONLY on a Hub and Spoke (Clinets & Server) mode. Peer 2 Peer is NOT supported

  • One JackStreamer per Musician
  • One Server per Ensemble

Your Home Internet Speed affect the Quality of JackStreamer Audio

  • Please do a speed test and see if your home Internet can support at minimum 3 Mbps up and downlink speed

You need Public IP Server or Cloud hosted Jacktrip Server for JackStreamer(s) to work

Here is a cost analysis for a 5 piece ensemble

  • You can select your own lower cost audio interface
  • Server monthly charges is approx. Please check with MTA for exact amount based on your location and usage

If you need to see other musicians during your JackStreamer session, you can use Zoom or any video conference on your PC or Laptop same time as JackStreamer session

  • The Zoom or other video call will be separate from JackStreamer audio
  • There may be lag on video as JackStreamer audio is low latency

Latest GUI Version is 1.5. You can just do a "SW Update" on GUI to update to latest version

[vesion # just above footer image on GUI]

The Graphic User Interface (GUI) is NOT an APP. It is accessed thru a standard web browser on any device. Phone/PAD/PC/Laptop and start your favorite Internet Browser. Type 192.168.4.1 on the URL window. Make sure your wifi is connected to "Jackstreamer".

To access GUI on the browser:

- First connect your wifi to "JackStreamer" access point. Ignore if no internet connection. You are still connected to JackStreamer.

- Open a browser on the device and type 192.168.4.1 on the URL window

- You should have access to below GUI

- You can enable WiFi to Ethernet bridge (enable internet) but it is not recommended as use of device connected to JackStreamer for other App may have impact on audio traffic via JackStreamer

JSGUI Aug2021

 jackMTAgui121020

Enable Internet

* Enable internet would setup a bridge between Wifi and Ethernet so you can use the same device to access GUI as well as browse/emai/zoom etc. However, we dont advise this as it will cause congestion on JackStreamer computer thus lowering the audio quality. Please do your zoom call or email etc on your laptop or PC etc.  You need to do ONLY one time. After OK, JackStreamer will setup the bridge and then reboot. Pls reconnect wifi after boot up.

Number of Channels

** Number of channels is to limit 1x1 or 2x2 (in&out) for JackStreamer session. This is ideal for low bandwidth home internet ( < 2 mbps uplink). Deafult is 2x2 (stereo). Please note that 1x1 will disconnect Right ch on both in (mic/line) and out (headphone). Preferably, all musicians on the session should switch to 1 ch mode so there are no missing channels.  Pls note that 1x1 do not mix ch1 and ch2 and sends as mono. This is only 1 ch input.

Auto Enable and Disable

This feature will enable auto start the JackStreamer to connect to Server automatically on Power bootup. It will use the last used session parameters to connect to the Server. You do not need to connect your device to JackStreamer WIFi and START session. If it does not autostart then you can do the normal way to start and stop session.

Please consider this that after your session, you need to POWER OFF (or thru GUI Stop session) the JackStreamer. If not, the connection would continue and your home bandwidth would be impacted.

ideal operation of Auto Start feature would be:

      - Power ON the JackStreamer when you are ready for the session

      - Power OFF as soon as the session is complete.

A JackTrip Server is a MUST for JackStreamer or any JackTrip Clients to function

1. Your own JackTrip Server with freeware JackTrip Software

        - Public IP address so JackStreamer clients can connect to it

       - Powerful desktop machine that can handle the desired number of users

       - Connected to an Internet that can handle the bandwidth needed. Say for example, 48K/16bit x 2 ch = approx. 2 Mbps per user. So, if you plan to support 10 user ensemble then downlink and uplink (ciritial in many ISP) MUST be more than 25 Mpbps at min.  Please use free online tools to check your internet speed at Server location

2. Rent a Cloud based JackTrip Server from 3rd Party providers [Preferred]

            Musicians Together Apart

    -        JackTrip Foundation - Virtual Studio Server

* All you need is IP address and FPP (set at Server)

3. Purchase a Rasbperry based Jack Server (under development)

               - The JackServer is standlone Raspberry4 computer tailored to run Jacktrip Server

            - Multiple JackStreamer (jacktrip) clients to connect

            - It is very cost effective way to drop in to setup a server

            - A public IP address to assign to the box so clinets from outside can connet to

            - Enough bandwidth. E.g. if 4 users then min.  (4x2.5) 10 Mbps up/down speed is a MUST.

            - Simple GUI based control to Server options such as # of users, mode, change IP address, etc.

            - You may need IT expertise to open up UDP port numbers on wifi  or campus router.

How to Setup 3rd Party Server and connect JackStreamers:

            - Follow the link to 3rd Party Server web site and steps to start a server.

            - You may need to specify the number of users (JackStreamers), FPP and Queue length

            - You will be given a IP address or server name and note down the FPP value set on server.

            - You can ignore the Q value as it is local to Server only (same as Client

            - All JackServer users enter the IP address (server name) and Select same FPP on GUI.

            - Q value can vary as it has only local effect

            - Press Start Session and you will be connected to your ensemble.

Stanford University team made some video tutorials about JackStreamer (similar but few difference on GUI):

  1. Equipment: the contents of the JackStreamer kit - With Presonus AB96 Audio Interface
  1. Plugging in: connecting everything and what the knobs do
  1. Connecting to a Server and Playing Together Online: how to start a jacktrip session and make music with someone over the Internet

Please note that above video tutorial is for a custom version of JackStreamer/GUI to Stanford music dept..

The 3rd Party Server UI is below. Anyone purchasing JackStreamer other than Stanford universiry will see the below GUI..

Step by Step on How to Setup JackStreamer and 3rd party or your own Jack Server:

- Setup a Jack Server (your own or MTA 3rd party) first.

- Note down the Server details such as FPP (frames per packet) and IP address (aka DNS name)

- Setup the JackStreamer and connect to Jackstreamer wifi to access GUI (at each musician location)

- Select the same FPP on JackStreamer as Server (everyone MUST - otherwise it wont work)

- Select any Q value (local only effect) and select your Audio Interface

Type in Server name or IP address on the text box and press START session. if all OK, you should see connection established - "LIVE" text appear

- You should be able to hear each other (mic - headphone) and play music

- After the first attempt, if no changes, you can simply press START session to connect. No need to select new options

JackStreamer Customer Testimonials

Stanford University Music Dept. Selects JackStreamer with their own Server

"Wanted to share that I just finished my first lesson with a pianist over JackStreamer (she’s in So Cal). She’s been working on Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, and for the very first time, I got to ‘accompany’ her during a lesson, playing the 2nd piano part. She started working on this piece in the Spring, so needless to say, she hadn’t had any opportunity to experience the piece other than as a solo. I haven’t made music in real time with anyone since early March—what a thrill!! It was super exciting for both of us—thank you SO MUCH for sharing this technology with us!", Laura Stanford University.
